Butterflies

Winter break is winding to a close this week. Sydney is gearing up to go back to school and we are trying to take advantage of the last few days since Jack has been sick and wheezy for a while and we were home bound for over a week. (Side note: Remember when Winter break was called Christmas vacation? I miss that. Sometimes this PC stuff if full of it, ya know!) Anyhow, we were lucky enough to have Katie and Nicholas over this week, so on Thursday we decided to head to Pismo Beach to visit the Butterflies.
The monarch butterflies use Pismo as one of the halfway houses each year as the migrate from Canada to the warm coast of Mexico. If you get to Pismo in Jan or Feb you can find a whole bunch of them at the butterfly grove just hanging around. I mean hundreds of thousands of butterflies. Usually when I go, its still overcast and kinda chilly, so they are all closed up and 'sleeping'. But this week it was a wonderful 70 degrees and mild, so the butterflies were all up and flittering around. Its an amazing sight. Check it out...

That is just one tiny branch of one tree. The kids got a kick of the butterflies flying in their faces. Even Jack loved it. We stayed a bit for the talk by the Park's docent, but soon they were restless so we went on walk down a path instead.
I loved watching the kids just stroll along. Jack wasn't that wheezy, or coughing and I think the fresh air did him good. I love him hangin with the big kids.

Ah. The sticks. My warriors ready for battle.
The girls always taking really good care of Jack.
We did have a great time wandering around.
And I love the fact that it cost nothing.
Free fun, can't get better than that!
