Park Day

Stopped by a park today while out doing errands. Thought the kids would enjoy taking a break from the normal day and have some fun playing. They did for a bit, but both got worn out pretty quickly. There were lots of bossy pushy kids at the park today. I didn't see a lot of parents, but the ones I did encounter couldn't care less if there child knocked another down or shoved someone out of the way.
Sydney surprised me by coming up and saying "Mom, I am ready to go. Those Mexican kids are awful and they just keep pushing".
Whoa.
I reminded her she was one of those "Mexican kids" but did agree that it was unkind to be like that on a play structure.
I'll admit it did catch me off guard to hear her group those kids together by race, instead of by gender or hair color or something else. More interesting was that she didn't identify herself with them although she is half Mexican. I am going to have to give that some thought. Maybe we need to instill more cultural pride somehow. Hmmm. More on that later.
Anyhow, for the short time we were there, I was able to play with the kids and snap a few shots. I love that Sydney is so loving and caring of Jack. From helping him up the stairs or joining him in the Tot Lot, she was right there to lend a hand. Such a great big sister.
