This was the poster that adorned my closet wall. Just as the Jonas Brothers and the High School Musical kids cover Sydney's right now. He was in his height of his career. I had a denim jacket covered with Michael Jackson buttons, I practiced moon walking every night on the tile in our living room and I stopped speaking to my friend Jeff Simpson when he came to school with a recording of "Eat It" by Weird Al Yankovic.
I am sorry to see him pass. Although I didn't understand or like his actions as I grew up, I still feel that he was a huge part of my joy as a kid. I remember even watching the Grammy's in 1984 when he won a record 8 Grammys. And he wore his white glove!Adam remembers Michael back in the 1970s. The song "Ben" used to make him cry. He remembers moon walking in the kitchen in 1983, grooving to "Rock with you" and listening the entire "Off the Wall" album in the late 1970's . Adam even remembers the Jackson 5. He remembers a record imprinted on the back of the Alpha Bits Box that played "ABC". He played it on his record player and it rocked!
Incredible that he is gone. Not sure if just that someone from our generation has passed so young, or that it pulls us back to being kids and being innocent. But I will miss Michael's music very much.
So glad we have his Thriller on CD in the car. Love that my kids will still be able to groove to PYT and "Wanna Be Startin Something" for years to come.
