I'm bugged

DO YOU HAVE THE
SWINE FLU??????

Dun dun dun.....

That is the question that I have answered like ten times just TODAY!
People are seriously mental when it comes to the swine flu.
No, everyone can calm down!
Our family just had the everyday normal flu.
But people are ready to run to the hills
if you tell them you are sick these days.
Or better yet, drag you out of town to the hills.
So seriously, I am not being a reckless mom over here.
We have all been on lock down for 6 days since Jack got sick.
We don't want to infect anyone.
But its just the normal flu.
But what if we did have the swine flu?
Ask yourselves, how would you respond?
If your neighbor got it, or your extended family, your mom?
Are you going to drop off chicken soup and see if you can do anything for them?
Or are you going to make them feel like a leper,
be rude and judgemental
and tell them to get away?
Look, I don't want the swine flu either.
We are getting normal flu shots on Thursday
and H1N1 shots when they are available in Oct.
But really folks.
Normal precaution and hand washing should keep you
and your loved ones safe and well.
*************************
Here's the deal.
I don't think that compassion and kindness
should go out the window just because of a virus.
Sydney said it best this week, when confronted by rudeness from an adult friend of the family,
She said, " If I had the flu and I had to stop by Jesus' house,
he would not yell at me and say'You have to get out of my home'
Smart cookie for only being 9 huh?
Read HERE for more info about the swine flu
and things you can do to keep safe!

You're right. It seems like there are a lot of people freaking out, I think in a large part to the media. I've heard a few programs in the past couple days about how the swine flu isn't as bad as they thought but people are still worried.

Laine had some bad bug last week and my VTs were going to come visit but they just did a drop-off treats thing even though she was feeling better that day. I can understand, but you're right that there should still be compassion and remembering that hand washing does wonders!

I was just reading your post Kathi and i really have to agree with you on this issue. I know that when i spoke to Sydney over the weekend she was telling me that she was very sad and bothered. I questioned her about it and she had told me that her and mommy were treated rudely by some good friends and she was upset by this. I talked to Syd about why this sometimes happens with adults. But, I have to say that if she noticed this and had bad feelings about it then who ever the adult(s) was really needs to do a reality check and question the example they set for the kids. Frankly, Hearing about the shallowness regarding this matter really ticks me off especially when it effects my child. Glad i wasn't there!
Boy, If people freak out over something like this flu imagine how they will act in a real crisis. That is a scary thought!
Don't let it frustrate you though. it really will help you find out who your real friends are!! Take Care
