I could tell by my mom's voice that there was a huge emergency going on. Its all in the tone. Seems as though my brother Jim was heading to the hospital. He had gotten dizzy earlier in the afternoon and started to have a severe headache that was making him have pain down his right side of his body and uncontrolled movement and stumbling. My mom had rec'd a phone call from Dani, his wife and proceeded to call 911.
Jim had recently been to the doctor for very high blood pressure and just and an EKG and tests to see how his heart was doing. That is a good thing, because all seem right with him just about a week ago. However, in his personal life, work stress and marital stress are adding pressure, and it all seemed to come to a head Christmas afternoon.
My mom told me she was on the way to the hospital, so we cancelled the other folks who were supposed to join us Christmas evening and I headed out to rescue my nieces from my brothers home. Sadie was watching her sisters Shelby and Sophie, so I picked them all up and brought them to our home.
Adam and the kids were awesome during this change of plans. They cleared all Christmas gifts to other rooms, put up the gate around the tree and basically made it ready for all the kids to be here. Christmas Evening was up in the air, as we were awaiting word from the hospital about my brother's condition.
Turns out Jimi had a "mini stroke" of sorts. Nothing too serious shown in the CAT scan and he checked himself out of the hospital the same evening. Too much stress in his life for sure. Marriage stuff. A new baby due any day. Their family definitely sees its share of drama. But the good news of him being well is wonderful. No tumors or burst arteries. Looks like the cause was stress. And stress we can lower.
After all the excitement simmered down my mother came over to have a late Christmas dinner with us. She brought a yummy ham and macaroni salad and she brought the biggest bag of gifts for the kids! Here is a picture of Adam lugging them all in...
